Spirit of CWT

First of all, the rules listed below cannot cover every possible situation. Remember that Crespo’s Worms Tournament thrives on its good atmosphere, so every participant is required to respect their opponent and look to resolve any problems that come up by means of discussion. If a problem occurs, your responsibility is to come to an agreement with your opponent, using these rules as a guideline. In case the conflict remains unresolved, the admin team will step in and, in the best interest of CWT, determine the outcome for you.

Once sign ups have opened, you can apply to take part in CWT.
Any number of contestants may apply for participation in the upcoming tournament.
Afterwards, 32 will be selected by the administrators to take part. There may also be qualifiers.

Issues

Your opponent is unresponsive

Contact an admin early on. If they see that you’re engaged and interested in getting your match played and your opponent isn’t, you will either win by default or your opponent will get disqualified and may be replaced by somebody on the waiting list.
The chat on the home page is the best way for you to arrange matches with your opponents. Type @OpponentName to send a private message to them.
Note that admins can read all private messages and any user might eventually become an admin. This allows admins to see your effort in arranging your matches.

In-game rules

We follow Open Normal League rules. Games need to be played at least in version 3.8.

External aids

  1. No visual aids. Visual aids include rulers, straight edges, paper, transparency sheets, or other objects placed on or near your screen. They also include markings on or around your screen, glasses that help you aim in a straight line, programs that display visual overlays on the screen for aiming or measuring, etc. Placing your own unmarked hands on the screen is fine.

  2. No external programs, modifications of WA files, or WormKit modules that offer an unfair advantage. This includes modules that display you or your opponents’ worm orders (e.g. wkWormOrder), modules that pin your weapons panel, modules or file modifications that make water transparent, macros that activate sequences of buttons with one button press or change WA’s normal detection of buttons, programs that auto-aim for you, etc. You are allowed to remap your keys, use modules that help give you your desired resolution, etc.

  3. Notes of any kind are allowed, including notes on team order, weapon usage, notching distances, game mechanics, etc. Using pre-existing notes is allowed. For example, you can write down your opponent’s worm names before the match.

Inactive players

CWT can last up to two or three months, so you should only sign up if you’re going to have enough spare time to play your matches.

During the group stage, inactive players may be replaced and their matches declared void.
In playoffs, technical wins may be handed out as a result of inactivity. In the case of first round playoff matches, the players may instead be replaced by others from their group.

Tournament

Most commonly in CWT, the tournament will begin with eight groups of four players in each of them, with the top two players advancing into a knockout playoff. In practice, the numbers may differ each year, but this will easily be visible to you when you visit the Groups page.

Currently, tournament matches are all played best of five (Bo5), except for the bronze match and final, which are best of seven (Bo7).

Group stage point system

Depending on the number of rounds won in a group stage match, a different number of points is awarded:

3-0; 3 points for the winner, 0 points for the loser 3-1; 3 points for the winner, 0 points for the loser 3-2; 3 points for the winner, 1 point for the loser

Group standings are determined by (in descending priority): points, matches won difference, rounds won difference, head-to-head record

Group draw

Admins apply a subjective ranking and divide all contestants into four categories, with each group receiving one player of each subjective strength rating.

Playoff draw

The top placing players from each group will, after the group stage, play against another group’s second placing player. From then on, the playoff follows standard single elimination knockout rules.
